A ship at stormy sea is a fitting picture in that adolescents, like all people, are on a spiritual voyage. What’s more, the cultural seas American youth must navigate are becoming increasingly tumultuous. Given this, one must ask whether Christian youth ministries – once considered unsinkable – are appropriately navigating the surrounding cultural currents or have they succumbed and, like a Chinese origami fortune boat, are wishfully struggling to stay afloat? Is there a healthier way of helping young people in their faith development?
In 2021, the Institute for Youth Studies, in association with Converge, a global family of youth movements, conducted a global survey among youth ministers to learn about their interests and experiences with intentional collaboration and learning communities.
